Cool Stats Widgets Series – sitemeter Visits Counter and Web Analyst

About the Widget.  Site Meter have some paid services but also a free service.  The free service is very good.  You have access to a summary of visitors; details of each visitor including domain, location, operating system, browser, time, pages visited, entry page, exit page, etc.; world map; graph of visits and views for different periods.  If you are crazy about stats you will have a lot of results to dig into.  The site can present the data a lists or graphically.

What Will Your Readers See on Your Website?  Site Meter offers a selection of counters with or without showing the visits count.  The chosen counter will display on your blog sidebar.  One style of sitemeter counter shows here.  If your visitors click the sitemeter counter they will arrive at the sitemeter website.  The data they will have access to will depend on the Privacy Level you choose.

How Do I Install This Widget on Installing the Histats Counter widget on your site is simple.  First, get the HTML code from their site.  Second, install the code on your blog.  And, you are done.  Please follow the instructions below.

Obtaining the Widget’s HTML Code

Press the link  to the sitemer Sign Up Page.   Press the Sign Up button next to the Site Meter Basic Free description.

Provide the requested information of your site.  (1) Type your site URL.  (2) Type your site name.  (3) Type a Code Name.  This is just a label.  your could type the site name, ex. lifenbits.  (4) Set your local time.  (5) Check box after reading Service Terms Agreement.  (6) Press Next button.

The next page will ask for your information including e-mail address.  Go ahead and provide the information requested and pressNext button.  Verify your information in the next page shown by sitemeter.  If everything is correct press Next button.  The next page confirms you have completed setting up your site.  To access the widget code click manager.

Use the Manager to choose your counter options.  You can select the meter style, if you want to ignore your visits, the meter privacy level and starting count.  Once you make you selections for the option given, you can get your non-java HTML code for

Meter Style Option.  Start choosing your meter style.  The default meter is the one shown in the picture.

Ignore Visits Option.  Next you can set your meter to ignore your visits from the computer you are working on.  If you don’t want the meter to ignore your visits please skip this step.

Privacy Level Option.  Site Meter let you set the privacy level of your meter.  This allows you to control what information your readers have access to, or if you are even listed in Site Meter public listing.  The default setting is NORMAL.  If you are not changing the setting you can skip this step.

sitemeter - Privacy Level Selection. Click the Privacy Level link on the left sidebar. (1) Select the Privacy Level of your meter. (2) Press the Save button.

Starting Count Option.  Site Meter allows you to set the starting count of your meter.  It will also let you set the starting date of the count.  If you want to start your count at zero you can skip this step.

sitemeter - Starting Count Page. Click the Starting Count link on the left sidebar. (1) Set the starting count. (2) Set the starting count date. (3) Press the Save button.

Non-Java HTML Code.  Once you finish with the options provided, you are ready to obtain the non-java HTML code.

sitemeter - Website Selection. A Web Site selection list loads. Scroll down through the list until you see Adding Site Meter to a Blog. Press the link.

sitemeter - HTML Non-Java Code. Copy the HTML non-java code on the text box. Proceed with the installation instructions of the widget on below.

Installing the Code on Your Blog

Once you have copied the HTML code, you can install the widget in your blog. Follow this instructions on How to Install HTML Code on Your Blog.
